DESCRIPTION:APECS-Sweden in association with SPRS (Swedish Polar Research Secretariat) is inviting students and senior scientists to the 4th edition of Göteborgs Alpine and Polar mini conference\, at the department of Marine Sciences (Hörsal) on the 26 Nov (15:00-17:00). \n  \nPlease register here before 24th Nov. \n  \nWe will also have some interesting presentations\, \n  \n\nThe thermodynamic Control of Oceanic Fronts in Transition Zones Using Numerical Modeling (R. Caneill)\nIn situ and satellite measurement of the Marinal Ice Zone (TBA)\nMore to be announced.\n\n  \nThis is a social event for people interested in Polar and Alpine science to meet\, interact and exchange ideas. Our hope is that this event will bring students and senior scientists together\, with presentations\, discussions and poster session. So please recycle your old posters and join in. \n  \nThe event will also include: \n\nDiscussions table\nPosters session\n\n  \nLooking forward to see you there \n/APECS-Sweden \n  \nPlan for the discussion tables: \n  \n1. As polar researchers\, we all are dependent on measurement data from the polar environments of the earth. Some of us go for long expeditions into the arctic or antarctic to collect new measurement data ourselfs\, others are looking at model output or remote sensing data. After all even modelling has to be rooted and validated by measurement data. \nThat is why we want to talk about your experience in assessing the polar environment\, how do you benefit from the infrastructure of your local working group and where do you take your data from? \nIn the latest years\, data from remote sensing\, numerical models and robotic/autonomous measurements is getting more important. How does this change your field of study? \n  \n2. As young polar scientists\, we would all like to build a network to learn more about our field of science from the experts. A great way to meet are conferences and workshops? But which ones are the relevant conferences for polar scientist? And how do we identify scams? \n3. The arctic region is changing rapidly with the climate change. Especially in Sweden\, Greta Thunberg brought the awareness of the risks of climate change into politics. Still\, a recent study shows that even climate scientists are not refraining from long distance traveling by plane. Are we at risk to harm the credibility of climate science in general? \n
