SUMMARY:Multidisciplinary Polar Talks - Session 3 (21 Oct\, 15:00)
DESCRIPTION:APECS Sweden is inviting to a Zoom-seminar with exciting talks on Thursday\, October 21st\, 15:00\n\nKarin Wallin Philippot: Severe eye and oral infectious diseases will affect animal welfare of Swedish reindeer\nIn her doctoral studies\, Karin studies the prevalence\, etiology and risk factors leading to better strategies to handle and prevent disease in reindeer \nAffiliations:\nSwedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU)\, Sweden\nNational Veterinary Institute (SVA)\, Sweden \nDr. Anna Roos: Diet and contaminants in marine mammals from Greenland\nAnna har worked in Greenland off and on for roughly five years\, at the Greenland Climate Research Center\, Greenland Institute of Natural Resources. Her focus is on environmental toxins in marine – and some terrestrial – mammals. She also has a study on what whales and dolphins eat\, in order to interpret the environmental toxins in the animals. In Greenland you are allowed to hunt and eat whales and dolphins\, and the large whales are regulated through the IWC that give quotas. There are no quotas for dolphins and porpoises. The animals are consumed by people\, and therefore it is important to know how the levels are. \nAffiliations:\nGreenland Institute of Natural Resources\, Greenland\nSwedish Museum of Natural History\, Sweden
