Dr. Anna Roos: Diet and contaminants in marine mammals from Greenland
Anna har worked in Greenland off and on for roughly five years, at the Greenland Climate Research Center, Greenland Institute of Natural Resources. Her focus is on environmental toxins in marine – and some terrestrial – mammals. She also has a study on what whales and dolphins eat, in order to interpret the environmental toxins in the animals. In Greenland you are allowed to hunt and eat whales and dolphins, and the large whales are regulated through the IWC that give quotas. There are no quotas for dolphins and porpoises. The animals are consumed by people, and therefore it is important to know how the levels are.
